The historic Banney Royd will host us

Our Venue: Banney Royd

Widely regarded as the largest and most elaborate architectural work of the legendary Edgar J Wood, Banney Royd was built in 1902. It is now a private family-owned Grade One Listed property, and is located near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire.

We will be hosted by Banney Royd's owners Mike and Marina, meeting for coffee and biscuits at 10:30am.

Speaking: Troy Scott Smith

Troy Scott Smith is the Head Gardener at Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, the former home of Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson and now a National Trust property.

Troy will talk about his vision for Sissinghurst, seeking to recapture the romance and timeless quality of this wonderful garden. He was previously head gardener at Bodnant in Conwy, and serves on the RHS floral committee. He enjoys writing and lecturing, and is available for consultancy and planting designs.

Speaking: Martin Fish

Martin Fish, garden writer and broadcaster, has almost 40 years of practical gardening experience. An RHS accredited judge, he judges at Chelsea, Hampton Court and Tatton. He is also a garden adviser for RHS Harlow Carr.

For many years Martin has been the gardening expert on BBC Radio York, and he currently writes for Garden News, Kitchen Garden and Gardening Which?

At 21 years of age he was the youngest eveer head gardener in the country. Along with his wife Jill, Martin has spent seven years created a beautiful three quarter acre garden in North Yorkshire. Martin will talk to us about his life in gardening, and answer your questions.
